How do I complete a Pre-Authorisation sale on my terminal?

What is Pre-Authorisation?

Pre-Authorisation (Pre-Auth) is where you can place a temporary hold on your customer’s card. This allows you to check the cardholder has sufficient funds in their account, to which you can complete the sale at a later date

Please note: Not all businesses are eligible for Pre-Auth, and you must request pre-auth is enabled before you can process these transaction types

Completing a Pre-Auth Sale

To complete a pre-auth sale on your terminal, identify the terminal you use and follow the relevant step-by-step guide below

ICT, IWL250, IWL 252, IWL258 terminals

  1. Press MENU
  2. Press CLEAR to scroll until completion is highlighted
  3. Press ENTER
  4. Insert the customer’s card (if the terminal has been configured for amount entry first, the amount will be required to be entered before the card is inserted)
  5. If a CHIP Card supports multiple card schemes, the following prompt will appear: (The card names shown are used as an example).
  6. Use the ENTER key to select and confirm the required card scheme, press CLEAR to scroll
  7. Key in transaction amount and press ENTER
  8. Key in Pre-Auth code, and press ENTER
  9. Ask the customer to enter their PIN
  10. The terminal will now print a copy of the customer receipt. Press ENTER to confirm the receipt was printed ok
  11. The terminal will print your copy of the receipt. Press ENTER to confirm the receipt was printed ok

Move5000, Desk5000 terminals

  1. From the READY Prompt press MENU key.
  2. Highlight Completion and press the confirmation key
  3. Key in transaction amount and press confirmation key
    Press CLEAR key to delete a single character
    Press CANCEL key to cancel the transaction
  4. Insert the card
    The Terminal will check the card
  5. Key in the authorisation code of the Pre-Auth transaction to be completed
    Press CLEAR key to delete a single character
    Press CANCEL key to cancel the transaction
  6. Prompt the customer to enter their PIN number
    As their number is keyed in asterisks will appear on the screen, entry of up to a 12-digit PIN is permitted
    Press CLEAR key to delete a single character
    Press CANCEL key to cancel the transaction
  7. The customer’s copy of the receipt will print
    Press confirmation key if printed successfully. Press paper feed key confirmation key to reprint
  8. Remove the card from the terminal
  9. Your copy of the receipt will print

DX8000 terminal

  1. From the Transaction selection screen select Completion
  2. Key in the Completion transaction amount and press confirmation key
    Press CLEAR key to delete a single character
    Press CANCEL key to cancel the transaction
  3. Insert the customer’s card into the terminal
  4. Enter the pre-auth code from the initial Pre-Auth transaction
    Press once the value has been entered
  5. Press ACCEPT to proceed with the entered pre-auth code
  6. Key in the txn id from the first pre-auth transaction then press ACCEPT
  7. The cardholder should enter their PIN code and press to confirm the PIN
    The outcome of the transaction will be displayed
  8. Your receipt will be printed
    Tear off your receipt and press if it is readable or press reprint to reprint the receipt
  9. Remove the card from the terminal
  10. The customer’s receipt will be printed
    Tear off the cardholder receipt and press if it is readable or press reprint to reprint the receipt
  11. Your copy of the receipt will print
